Arm Lift

What is an Arm Lift?

Have you lost a significant amount of weight and are now left with sagging skin on your arms? Or perhaps the natural aging process or genetics have left you with an undesirable arm contour. If so, you may be able to benefit from an arm lift. An arm lift, also called brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove sagging skin and localized fat pockets from the upper arms for a more natural contour.

Overall, an arm lift can achieve the following:

  • Reduces sagging skin
  • Tightens and smooths arm tissues
  • Improves personal comfort level following weight loss
  • Prevents rashes and inflammation due to excess skin folds

Who can Benefit from an Arm Lift?

If you are bothered by excess skin and fat on your upper arms due to weight fluctuations, hereditary, or the aging process, you may be able to benefit from an arm lift. Ideal candidates will be at a stable weight and be committed to following a healthy lifestyle to maintain results long-term. Contact our office today to schedule a consultation appointment to get started.

The Procedure

The arm lift procedure can be performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia; your doctor will decide which is right for you. There are a number of incision patterns that can be used to remove excess skin, depending on the amount and location. Incisions are usually placed on the inside or on the back of the arm and may extend from the underarm to the elbow. Excess fat may be removed with liposuction. All incisions will be closed using sutures.

Arm Lift Recovery

Following your arm lift, you may need to wear a special compression garment to help reduce swelling and help support your new arm contours. Swelling and bruising are to be expected but will resolve with time. Patients generally need 1-2 weeks to recover, though recovery length may differ depending on the amount of skin and fat removed. However, you should avoid lifting your arms over shoulder height for several weeks, as well as avoid physical activity for the best results. Our team will provide you with specific aftercare instructions.
