What is a Thigh Lift?
Most patients who have lost a significant amount of weight are also concerned about the appearance of their thighs. As they lose weight, the excess skin may hang from their thighs, causing them to be self-conscious. These patients can benefit from a thigh lift, which can remove the extra skin.
The thigh lift procedure can achieve the following:
• Reduce excess skin and fat
• Achieve smoother skin and improved contours of the thighs
• Improve overall proportions of the thighs compared to the rest of the body
Who can Benefit from a Thigh Lift?
Individuals who are unhappy with excess skin and tissue on their thighs can often benefit from a thigh lift. Ideal candidates are individuals who are at a stable weight, who are overall healthy, and who have realistic goals for the outcome of their surgery. It is also important that patients are committed to following a healthy lifestyle in order to maintain their results. The best way to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure is to schedule a consultation appointment at our office.
The Procedure
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in our fully accredited facility. General anesthesia is administered by a physician anesthesiologist to maximize your safety and comfort during and after the procedure. The incision pattern that is used may vary, though there are generally two different techniques, including an inner thigh lift incision and an outer thigh lift incision.
Inner thigh lift incision: Involves incisions in the groin, extending down and wrapping around the back of the thigh.
Outer thigh lift incision: An incision is created extending from the groin around the hip and across the back.
Sutures will be used to close up incisions and support the new contours.
Thigh Lift Recovery
Following a thigh lift, patients may experience bruising and swelling, which will resolve with time. A compression garment may need to be worn to help reduce swelling and hold your new body contours in place. Sutures are often removed after the first week during a follow-up visit with your surgeon. Movement should be kept to a minimum for the first two weeks, and you should avoid stretching your thighs when sitting and bending. In most cases, incisions should be fully healed by the six-week mark, however, it can take up to six months for swelling to completely subside.
