What is Weight Loss Contouring?
We see many patients who have lost large amounts of weight through diet and exercise or surgery. One of the consequences of losing a significant amount of weight is extra skin that hangs on various areas of the body, causing self-consciousness and discomfort. Thankfully, this is a condition we can correct through weight loss contouring surgery, helping you achieve smoother skin and a tighter body contour for a boost in confidence.
The Procedure
Weight loss contouring surgery is a highly customizable procedure, as no two individuals will require the same plan of action. Excess skin and tissue can be removed through a variety of different procedures, including an arm lift, a lower body lift, thigh lift, tummy tuck, bra-line back lift, and liposuction. Oftentimes, a combination of these procedures is needed to achieve the desired results. However, regardless of your particular procedure, incisions will be created to remove excess skin.
A personalized treatment plan will be created for you following your consultation appointment. Most surgeries are performed in our surgical facility, and patients are able to go home the same day.
How Weight Loss Impacts Your Body Shape and Skin
When you lose weight, it can greatly impact your body and your skin. While massive weight loss can give you a smaller body shape, your skin doesn’t always spring back with your new shape. Significant weight loss can mean you are left with sagging skin and leftover pockets of unwanted fat. This often means that you may not be able to fully enjoy your new body shape. That’s where our team at Plastic Surgery Associates comes in. With our body contouring procedures, you can finally have the contours and shape you desire while also getting rid of excess skin.
Body Contouring After GLP-1 Weight Loss: What You Should Know
Before your body contouring procedure(s), it’s important to know that this isn’t a weight loss procedure. It will contour the shape you already have and may involve removing excess fat, but it’s more about body contouring, not weight loss.
We also recommend that to be eligible for major body contouring procedures that you be at a stable weight, in good overall health, and be a nonsmoker or willing to quit. During your initial consultation with your surgeon, they will give you all the information you need to make the best decision for you and build you a customized treatment plan based on your goals.

Common Problem Areas Treated with Post-Weight Loss Surgery
Post-weight loss surgical procedures can be done on a number of different areas. Some of the most common problem areas that patients want to address with this life-changing surgery include the abdomen, upper arms, thighs, breasts, and buttocks. At Plastic Surgery Associates, we will listen to your concerns and build you a tailored treatment plan that addresses all your problem areas.
Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Body Contouring After Weight Loss: Which Is Right for You?
There are big differences between surgical and non-surgical body contouring. With body contouring surgery, the procedures may be more complex and invasive, but the results are much more significant compared to non-surgical options. That said, non-surgical body contouring allows you to see results without incisions or possible scarring. Non-surgical options also come with much less recovery when compared to their surgical counterparts.
Which one is right for you depends greatly on what your goals are. If you want results but aren’t willing or able to go under the knife, non-surgical body contouring may be right for you. On the other hand, if you want long-lasting and significant results, surgical body contouring may be a better fit.
What to Expect During Your Body Contouring Journey
Your body contouring journey will start with a consultation with one of our expert providers. During this appointment, we’ll review your medical history, discuss your goals, address any questions and concerns, and examine your problem areas. From there, your provider will build a customized treatment plan. It may include a tummy tuck, liposuction, arm or thigh lift, lower body lift, and/or breast lift or augmentation. They will also give you detailed instructions on how best to prepare for your surgery.
On the day of surgery, we’ll start by administering general anesthesia for your comfort. Then, your surgeon will make the necessary incisions, remove excess skin, remove excess fat, lift or enhance the breasts, and more. Once everything is reshaped and tightened, you’ll start the recovery process.
To begin the healing process, you will need to avoid strenuous activities, excess sun exposure, alcohol, and blood thinners. We also recommend you wear your provided compression garment to reduce swelling. You will likely be off work for 2 weeks, but it will depend on the complexity of your surgery.
You will start to see results within the first month, and those improvements will continue to show up as the residual swelling and bruising subside.
Ideal Candidates for Post-Weight Loss Contouring
Most patients who are struggling with excess skin and fat due to major weight loss are good candidates for body contouring. That said, there are some criteria we follow to determine your eligibility. You will need to be in good overall health, have realistic expectations, be a nonsmoker, and be at a stable weight. Body contouring is not for anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding, or has any medical conditions that could affect the surgical or healing process.
