What is Liposuction?

The Procedure
Liposuction can be performed using local anesthesia, IV sedation, or general anesthesia. At our office, we perform liposuction using the tumescent technique, which can sometimes be performed without general anesthesia. This involves infusing the areas to be treated with an anesthetic solution which allows for optimal fat removal with minimal bleeding and fewer side effects. Small liposuction cannulas with be placed through small incisions through which fat cells are removed and the area sculpted. Any incisions will be closed using sutures.
The exact length of your procedure will vary depending on the size of the treatment area and the amount of fat being removed. However, treatment generally takes 3-4 hours to complete.

Liposuction Recovery
After your liposuction procedure, you will need to wear a compression garment day and night for about two weeks to reduce swelling and support your new body contours. Swelling, bruising, and soreness may occur but will resolve with time. While recovery time may vary depending on the area treated and the amount of fat removed, it generally takes 5-7 days before you can return to work. Our team will provide you with special post-op instructions to help your recovery go smoothly.
