Face & Neck Lift

What is a Face & Neck Lift?

As we age, our facial contours can change due to thinning of the skin, sun damage, heredity, stress, and loss of facial fat. This can cause self-consciousness as lax skin develops on the face and neck, causing many to look older than they feel. A face & neck lift is a procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face, jawline, and neck for a refreshed, youthful appearance.

Overall, a face & neck lift can help to:

  • Eliminate excess, lax skin on the face, jawline, and neck
  • Tighten loose skin for a more youthful appearance
  • Reposition fat that has fallen or disappeared
  • Eliminate folds and wrinkles between the nose and corners of the mouth

Who can Benefit from a Face & Neck Lift?

Healthy adults who are looking to improve the appearance of lax skin and signs of aging on the face and neck can often benefit from this procedure. Ideal candidates will be nonsmokers who have a positive outlook on their results. Please contact our Grand Rapids office today to schedule a consultation appointment with one of our plastic surgeons, which is the first step toward treatment.

The Procedure

To perform the facelift portion of this procedure, your surgeon may perform a traditional facelift or a limited incision facelift. A neck lift will then also be performed. The face & neck lift technique that is right for you will be determined by your plastic surgeon depending on a number of factors.

During a traditional facelift, an incision will begin in the hairline near the temples, continue around the ear, and end in the lower scalp. During a limited incision facelift, shorter incisions will be created at the temples, and continue around the ear. This option is often used for individuals with a smaller amount of lax skin. A neck lift will then address sagging jowls and loose skin under the chin and on the neck.

Face & Neck Lift Recovery

After your face & neck lift, bandages will be placed around the face to minimize swelling, though bruising and swelling are normal after a facelift. Most patients can return to their regular activities after about two weeks, while exercise can be resumed after four weeks. Once swelling and bruising subside, the final results will become more noticeable. Bandages will be removed within a week, as should stitches. While there will be some scarring as a result of this procedure, they are concealed in your hairline and will fade with time.

A facelift is a great way to tighten loose skin on your face and restore a more youthful appearance. A neck lift can also help to tighten loose skin on the lower face and jawline.

How do I get rid of my double chins?

A facelift or neck lift is a great way to eliminate your double chin and restore a smooth, defined contour on your lower face.

Before a facelift, your doctor will ask about the medications you take, allergies, and underlying health conditions. If you are a candidate, you will have to stop taking blood-thinning medications and avoid smoking for 6 weeks before surgery.

How long after a facelift can I exercise?

You should wait about 6 weeks to exercise after a facelift. However, light activities like walking, stretching, and yoga can be resumed within the first 3 weeks.

How long do ears hurt after facelift?

How long does facelift last?

A facelift lasts at least 10 years and results will gradually fade as your skin continues to age.

How long does fat transfer face last?

A facial fat transfer can last just as long as traditional facelift surgery. You should be able to enjoy your results for many years if not decades.

How do you take care of your face after a facelift?

After your facelift, give your body time to heal by relaxing. Gently cleanse your facelift without rubbing it, avoid wearing makeup for a few days, and make sure to stay hydrated. You should also avoid sun exposure since this can increase swelling and bruising.

How long does it take for bruising on the face to go away?

After a facelift, bruises should fade in about 2 weeks, but everybody heals differently so you may notice improvements sooner or a little longer than 2 weeks.
