A forehead lift, also called a brow lift, smooths your forehead, raises your upper eyelids and diminishes frown lines by adjusting or removing skin and muscle at the top of your head. The procedure can eliminate forehead furrows and hooding over your eyes. It can also help you with inherited conditions such as a droopy brow. Plastic Surgery Associates can do forehead lifts at almost any age. Even if you are balding or have a receding hairline, your surgeon may be able to camouflage the incisions by making them further back.

To preview this procedure’s effect on your appearance, look in a mirror and place your palms at the outer edges of your eyes, above your eyebrows. Use your palms to raise your brow and forehead upward. The result will approximate your appearance following a forehead lift.

The Procedure

Most forehead lifts are now done by placing three to five small incisions in the hairline and using a camera to aid in the dissection. This technique is called an “Endoscopic Brow lift”. It has many advantages over older techniques such as less scarring, less pain, hidden incisions, and fewer problems with sensation to the scalp. No hair is a shaved during the procedure and patients can wash their hair the following day.

What Can I Expect?

You should be ready for minimal activity in a day or two and able to return to work in a week to 10 days. However, strenuous physical activity will have to wait several weeks. You may have some numbness and discomfort in the incision area, but that can be treated with medication. Bruising and swelling should start to diminish within a week, and most signs of surgery should fade within a month.

The vast majority of our patients are positive about the results of their forehead lifts, saying they look younger, more alert and more rested.
