The Difference Between Botox and Juvéderm
You have likely heard of Botox and dermal fillers like Juvéderm that help eliminate signs of aging, but do you know the difference between these popular treatments? Here’s the rundown!:
Botox Cosmetic is an injection mostly used for wrinkles and lines around the eyes and forehead. The crease between brows (often called the “eleven” wrinkle) and “crows feet” are common areas. This treatment relaxes a given muscle just enough to reduce overlying wrinkles using a safe toxin called botulinium toxin type A. While results vary, a typical Botox injection will last around four to six months. Botox is sold by the “unit”, with patients generally using at least 20 units per treatment. Though Botox offers excellent skin smoothing results, it will not “fill in” loose, wrinkled skin or restore volume like a dermal filler.
Juvéderm is the dermal filler we use at Plastic Surgery Associates that is used to “fill in” lines around the mouth and nose. Most of the time the nasolabial fold, otherwise known as “smile” or “laugh line” that runs from the nose to the corner of the mouth is treated to restore facial volume. Juvéderm is also an excellent solution for patients who want fuller lips. It contains hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance found in the body and also contains lidocaine to improve comfort during your treatment. With just one treatment, you’ll get smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year. Juvéderm is sold by syringe and can be saved for future touch-up injections.
