Trichloroacetic Acid Peel (TCA) - Obagi Blue Peel
Plastic Surgery Associates uses the Obagi Blue Peel™, an application of blue solution mixed with trichloracetic acid (TCA). These applications remove thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin, restoring tighter, smoother and younger-looking skin regardless of age, color or skin type.
A TCA peel can achieve results similar to those of a deeper chemical peel or laser treatment, but healing occurs in 7-10 days rather than weeks or months. The treatment can be performed on your facial and non-facial areas, including your neck, chest, hands, back, arms and legs.
If you have blemish-prone skin, wrinkles, pigmentation problems, sun damage or generally poor skin quality, you stand to gain the most from an Obagi Blue Peel.
What does Obagi Blue Peel involve?
Depending upon the condition of your skin, your doctor will apply one to four coats of Obagi Blue Peel solution. At each level, you will experience a mild burning sensation that lasts two to three minutes. In most cases, the procedure takes 25 to 30 minutes, and sedation is usually not required.
What should I expect after the Obagi Blue Peel treatment?
Your skin will retain a bluish tint for 12 to 24 hours, and it will begin to peel within two to three days. The peeling should not disrupt your regular lifestyle; depending on the extent of your treatment, you may not even need to spend time at home.
Most patients need two to three Obagi Blue Peels, performed at four-week intervals, to achieve optimal results. Annual treatments assist in the long-term maintenance of skin health and fitness, as does the use of Obagi NU-DERM Skin Treatment creams.
