Chemical Peels
Removing damaged skin without surgery

If you have blotchy skin, facial blemishes or fine wrinkles, chemical peels may offer a solution. Chemical peels use a chemical solution to penetrate the deepest layers of your facial skin, smoothing its texture by removing the flawed outer layers.

However, chemical peels do not slow or prevent the aging process, nor are they a substitute for surgery.

What do chemical peels involve?
Plastic Surgery Associates offers two types of chemical peels:

  • Trichloroacetic acid (TCA). This is used mostly for medium-depth peeling in treating superficial blemishes, fine surface wrinkles and pigment problems. We use a TCA called the Obagi Blue Peel™.
  • Phenol. This is the strongest peel and is used to treat coarse facial wrinkles, pre-cancerous growths and blotchy or sun-damaged skin.

How do chemical peels compare to other skin treatments?
Many more serious skin conditions such as deeper wrinkles and creases, birthmarks, brown age spots and more serious acne scars require laser treatments rather than chemical peels.

For more minor facial flaws, Plastic Surgery Associates also offers skin rejuvenation treatments, and a non-chemical procedure called microdermabrasion.
