Forehead Lift / Brow Lift
Diminishing the signs of aging

A forehead lift, also called a brow lift, smooths your forehead, raises your upper eyelids and diminishes frown lines by adjusting or removing skin and muscle at the top of your head. The procedure can eliminate forehead furrows and hooding over your eyes. It can also help you with inherited conditions such as a droopy brow.

A good way to test how a forehead lift would change your appearance is to look in a mirror and place your palms at the outer edges of your eyes, above your eyebrows. Use your palms to raise your brow and forehead upward. The result is close to how a forehead lift would make you look.

Plastic Surgery Associates can do forehead lifts at almost any age. Even if you are balding or have a receding hairline, your surgeon may be able to camouflage the incisions by making them further back.

What does a forehead lift involve?
The incisions usually start at your ear and go across the top of your forehead, though they may be higher if you have a high or receding hairline. The doctor will remove excess muscle, tissue and skin, then close the incisions with stitches or clips.

Your hair will not be shaved; instead, it will be tied back around the incision area. We typically perform the surgery on an outpatient basis, so you can go home the same day.

There is also an alternate, less-invasive form of forehead lift surgery using an endoscope. Ask your doctor which method is best for you.

What should I expect after my forehead lift?
You should be ready for minimal activity in a day or two and able to return to work in a week to 10 days. However, strenuous physical activity will have to wait several weeks. You may have some numbness and discomfort in the incision area, but that can be treated with medication. Bruising and swelling should start to diminish within a week, and most signs of surgery should fade within a month.

The vast majority of our patients are positive about the results of their forehead lifts, saying they look younger, more alert and more rested.
