Lower Body Lift

What is a Lower Body Lift?

The combined effects of aging, gravity, childbirth, fluctuations in weight, and a loss of skin elasticity all contribute to the loss of tone in the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. To correct this appearance, we offer a lower body lift, a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen, hips, and lower back, lifts the buttocks and outer thighs, and tightens the underlying muscles of the abdominal wall.

A lower body can achieve the following:

  • Tightens stretched, excess, and sagging skin from the lower body
  • Removes excess skin and tissue
  • Restores a shapelier, firmer lower body appearance

Who can Benefit from a Lower Body Lift?

Lower body lift surgery is best suited to people who are in relatively good shape but have loose lower body skin and/or a significant amount of lower body fat that won’t respond to dieting or exercise. It is important that candidates be healthy with no medical conditions that could impair healing. Ideal candidates will also have good skin elasticity. To best determine if this procedure is right for you, contact our Grand Rapids office today to schedule a consultation appointment.

The Procedure

The lower body lift procedure is performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia. There are a variety of different incision patterns that may be used during this procedure, depending on the amount of change desired. Our surgeons will strategically place incisions in locations where they can be hidden by most types of clothing.

One common technique involves creating incisions similar to a bikini pattern to tighten lax skin around the abdomen, groin, waist, thighs, and buttocks. Liposuction may also be employed to help contour the body. Sutures will be placed within underlying tissue to help support newly shaped body contours.

Lower Body Lift Recovery

There may be some bruising and swelling for a week or so following surgery. You may have slight pain or discomfort which can be treated with medication prescribed by your doctor. Your surgeon usually will use drains to remove excess fluid, and these may be in place for one to two weeks following surgery.

While the results of your lower body lift are immediately visible, it can take 1-2 years for final results to become apparent as swelling reduces. We will provide you with specific aftercare instructions to help ensure that you are healing properly.
